Neston Nomads Sunday Team

Biography

Neston Nomads FC Currently play football in the in the Houlihans Birkenhead Football League and had 5 years playing football in the Wirral Sunday Football League. Formed in 2004 by Matthew Ball and Lee Cairns, the club was managed by Brian Tudor for 8 successful seasons and won an impressive 8 trophies. Brian won 2 league titles and went one whole league campaign undefeated. He also won 6 cups including the Houlihans Memorial Challenge Cup twice against Queens Park and Rock Ferry Social, the Wirral Amateur Cup against Prenton Dell and the Wirral Sunday League Challenge Cup against Neston FC.

In September 2012, Brian went onto to manage the Neston Nomads West Cheshire team and Lee Cairns took over as player/manager to present day with the support of Jimmy Cairns, Kevin Jones and John Foulkes. In his first season as player manager, the team retained the Wirral Sunday Premier Division league championship but runners up in the Pyke Cup Final. During the 2013/2014 season, Neston Nomads made Wirral Sunday League history and become the first team ever in 44 years to win the Wirral Sunday Premier Division League title 3 years in a row.

The team also reached the Cheshire Sunday Cup Quarter Final and lost the WSL Premier Cup Final that season. In 2014/2015, Nomads finished a disappointing 3rd place but won both the WSL Premier and Challenge Cup Finals against Kent FC to complete a Cup double. Sadly, after 44 years the Wirral Sunday League folded meaning Neston Nomads move back to the Houlihans Birkenhead Sunday League for the 2015/2016 season, a challenge everyone relished.

The team Final for a second time but gained promotion to the Houlihans Birkenhead Sunday League Premier Division for 2016/2017 season. Despite finishing bottom of the league, the club debuted in the FA National Sunday Cup, winning 2 games but bowed out in Round 3 of the competition. 2017/2018 season, Neston Nomads lost the Veronica Conway Cup Final and were relegated to the Houlihans Birkenhead Sunday League Division 1.

We had two good seasons rebuilding the team and experienced some decent cup runs. After having  gained promotion back to the Houlihans Birkenhead Sunday League Premier Division for the 2020/2021 season, which will be our 18th season as a Sunday team.

The team now play home league and cup matches at the new Neston High School 3G pitch.
